About H&H Counseling
Therapy Built Around the Person
H&H Counseling is a clinician-owned therapy practice serving adults and couples in New Hampshire, with additional addiction and substance-use counseling services available for adults in Massachusetts.
The practice was built around a simple idea: therapy should be thoughtful and evidence-based without becoming impersonal, overly complicated, or disconnected from everyday life.
H&H works with people facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, substance use, recovery, relationship difficulties, and major life changes. Rather than expecting every person to fit into the same treatment model, care is shaped around the individual, their circumstances, and what they are hoping to change.
How We Approach Therapy
Effective therapy can look different from one person to the next.
Some clients benefit from practical strategies and a clear plan for addressing what is happening now. Others need time to better understand experiences, relationships, emotions, or patterns that have developed over many years. Often, meaningful therapy involves both.
Our clinicians draw from established therapeutic approaches while adapting treatment to the needs of the person in front of them. The goal is not to force every concern into a particular model, but to provide care that is clinically appropriate, collaborative, and useful outside of the therapy session.
We also recognize that mental health concerns rarely exist in isolation. Stress, relationships, trauma, substance use, work, family experiences, and major transitions can influence one another. Looking at the broader picture can help create a more useful understanding of what is happening and what may help.

A Clinician-Owned Practice
H&H Counseling was co-founded by Ken Haberland and Alex Howell with the goal of building a practice that combines professional clinical care with a more personal and straightforward experience for clients.
Both founders bring experience in behavioral health and substance-use treatment, and the practice has continued to grow by adding clinicians with complementary areas of experience.
Today, H&H includes clinicians working across areas such as general adult mental health, trauma, EMDR, substance use, recovery, and couples therapy.
As H&H grows, the focus remains on providing care that feels personal, thoughtful, and responsive to the individual seeking help.
Meet the Clinicians
Finding the right therapist can matter as much as choosing the right type of therapy.
Our clinician directory provides more information about each H&H clinician, including who they work with, the concerns they commonly address, their clinical approach, and where they provide care.
Request Care
You do not need to know which clinician, diagnosis, or type of therapy is right for you before reaching out.
Use the Request Care form to tell us a little about what you are looking for. H&H will follow up about service fit and next steps.
Submitting a request does not guarantee a particular clinician or appointment time.
